Classic Meatloaf Recipe: A Family Favorite

This classic meatloaf recipe isn’t just a dish; it’s a memory. My Aunt Gaye perfected this recipe, and every bite feels like a warm hug from the past. The combination of savory ground beef, the tang of mustard, the richness of A1 steak sauce, and the sweetness of ketchup creates a balance of flavors that is both nostalgic and universally loved.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 sleeve of crackers, crushed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 can of tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 3 tablespoons A1 steak sauce
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • Ketchup (for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Your Oven
Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). While the oven heats, prepare your ingredients.
  2. Prepare the Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, crushed crackers, egg, tomato sauce, mustard, A1 steak sauce, and diced onion. Using your hands to mix is the best way to evenly distribute the ingredients and achieve a cohesive texture. Don’t be afraid to get messy—this is where the magic happens!
  3. Shape the Meatloaf
Once the ingredients are thoroughly mixed, transfer the meat mixture into a loaf pan. Shape it evenly so it cooks uniformly.
  4. Top with Ketchup
Generously spread ketchup over the top of the meatloaf to create a flavorful glaze as it bakes. Feel free to add more or less ketchup, depending on your preference.
  5. Bake to Perfection
Place the meatloaf in your preheated oven and bake for 45 to 60 minutes. Cooking time may vary depending on your oven, so keep an eye on it. The meatloaf is ready when it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  6. Rest and Serve
Once baked, allow the meatloaf to rest for about 5 minutes before slicing. This helps lock in the juices and makes serving easier.

Make it Your Own

Feel free to adapt this recipe to suit your family’s tastes! Swap out the crackers for breadcrumbs, add a touch of garlic or Worcestershire sauce for extra flavor, or experiment with different toppings like barbecue sauce. Also, we often serve this with mashed potatoes.

Share the Love

Food is a beautiful way to preserve traditions and create memories. If you try this recipe or have your own cherished family dish, we’d love to hear about it. Let’s continue to build a community of love and tradition—one meal at a time.

Compliments of Aunt Gaye ❤️
